It has a total budget of US$5.2 billion which is around 2.11 percent of its total GDP. 

The Chilean Armed Forces, officially known as the Armed Forces of Chile is estimated to be just over 50,000 people and consists of an Air Force, a Navy and land forces.

It is a member of eight international military organizations which makes it the 44th most militarily interconnected state in the world. It is a member of the following organizations:

Due to its change from dictatorship to democracy as well as maintaining and expanding its democratic features, Chile is ranked as the 21st most democratic state in the world.

In the period between its independence and the end of the 20th century, Chile was ruled by dictators as well as single party rulers. At the turn of the 20th century, a more democratic transition has taken place and a multiparty system was erected.

Chile 

Known for being one of the most stretched out states in the world, the landscape of Chile ranges from an Arctic climate to a desert climate. The first contact between Spanish explorers and indigenous people was in the first half of the 16th century. During this period, the settlements of the Spanish was met with heavy resistance from the Incas. The territory would remain under Spanish control until 1818 when a war for independence created an independent Chilean state. .

 Because Chile is stretched out from north to south, its landscape is characterized by many glaciers to the south, many forests in the center and desert terrain in the north. The Andes Mountain range to its east marks the border with Argentina in Bolivia while its border to the north with Peru is characterized by a low or hilly mountain range. 

In terms of surface area, it is the 37th largest state in the world making it slightly larger than Zambia and slightly smaller than Turkey. It is a total surface area of 760,000 square kilometers or 294,000 square miles. 

It has a total water surface area of 12,350 square kilometers or 4770 square miles which makes Chile the 42nd state with the highest volume of water.

Around 1.6 percent of its total landmass is covered by water. Most of its drinking water is not potable and it is estimated that an increase in water shortages in the northern and central parts of Chile will further decrease the water quality.

The climate of Chile is a southern hemispheric climate where the summers are from November until January and its winters from May to August. Its climate is heavily dependent on its geographical location as well as its vegetation. Its terrain can be divided up into three distinct types which are desert, grasslands and rainforest. On average, the temperature is around 10.3 degrees Celsius or 50.5 degrees Fahrenheit which makes it the 153rd warmest state in the world. 

During the summer period, the average temperature goes up to 17.1 degrees Celsius or 62.8 degrees Fahrenheit. 

During the winter period, the average temperature drops down to 7.9 degrees Celsius or 46.2 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Most of the precipitation occurs during the winter months and is unevenly spread out throughout Chile. On average, the annual precipitation is around 16.4 inches or 41.7 centimetres 

The capital, Santiago, is a home to around 5 million people. The capital that is closest located to Santiago is Buenos Aires Argentina with a distance of 1142 kilometers or 710 miles. The capital that is furthest removed from Santiago is Beijing China with a distance of 19,033 kilometer or 11,826 miles. 

The economy of Chile is characterized by being a market-oriented economy. Its economy is based on the export of raw material, mainly copper as well as lithium which is mainly exported to the United States and China. Most of its imports also originate from the United States and China.  

It is a member of numerous international economic organizations which provides foreign investment as well as free trade agreements between Chile and other states. In total, it is a member of 13 international economic organizations which makes it the 18th most economically interconnected state in the world. It is a member of the following organizations:

Its GDP is estimated to be around US$280 billion which makes it the 47th highest GDP in the world representing around 0.325 percent of total global GDP. 

Its GDP per square kilometer is around US$360,000 or around US$926,000 per square mile. This makes Chile the state with the 56th highest GDP per surface area. 

Its GDP per capita is around US$14,600 which makes it the 71st highest in the world. 

The absolute earnings (GDP per capita) reflect the average yearly income. The figure below shows how much, on average, an inhabitant of another state earns for every $1 earned by a citizen of this state.

The purchasing power of the Chile and citizen is estimated to be around US$24,400 which makes it the 78th highest in the world.

The official language is Spanish which is spoken by virtually all of its 18.6 million citizens. The remaining people that do not speak Spanish are the indigenous Chileans. English is seen as a second language which is spoken by 15 percent of the population. 

The population density of Chile is the 157th highest in the world with 63 people per square mile and 24 people per square kilometer. 

Emigration from Chile has changed in recent decades. Due to the economic growth, is changed its migration surplus to a migration deficit. It is estimated that around 750.000 Chileans have migrated to other states which corresponds to 4.4 percent of the total Chilean population. The main destinations for migration are Argentina, the United States and Germany. 

Immigration has increased in recent years. More than 60 percent of its immigrants come from south America with the largest supplier of immigrants being Peru. It is estimated that around 950,000 people have immigrated to Chile which represents around 5.4 percent of the total population. 

Literacy rates are fairly high at 96.1 percent of the population. This is due to the fact that the Chilean government finances primary and secondary education to all citizens. 

Chile knows two types of healthcare systems, public and private. There is a relatively large discrepancy between publicly funded healthcare properly funded healthcare which in turn has an effect on the overall health care the population. Most health risks are connected to diseases that are prevalent in developed states such as cancer due to smoking, alcohol consumption and obesity related diseases. The average life expectancy in Chile is 80.8 years with women reaching 82.8 years and men reaching 78.5 years. 

The Chilean government provides freedom of religion under its Constitution. 

Christianity is the largest religion in Chile with around 85.8 percent of the population being Christian, making Chile the 30th most Christian state in the world. Catholicism is the largest denomination due to its Spanish history and the Catholic church plays a large role in other areas such as education and healthcare.

There is a relatively small population of Muslims in Chile. There are several mosques and community centres spread out throughout Chile, but the total number of Muslims remains under ten thousand people. The first Muslims in Chile were from the Sunni denomination, but in an attempt to spread this Shiite faith, Iran had promoted migration to Chile at the turn of the 21st century. At present, around 0.01 percent of the population adheres to Islam making it the 181st most Islamic state in the world. 

It is estimated that around 0.09 percent of the Chilean population adheres to Buddhism. These are mainly immigrants from East Asia, mainly China, that live in Chile and are employed in the mining sector. 

Hinduism has started to grow since the start of the 20th century. Even though the majority of Hindus originate from Indonesia, there are also many Hindus that originates from the Philippines. These new communities are mostly local, but at Punta Arenas there is a Hindu temple present. Around 0.03 percent of the Chilean population adheres to Hinduism. 

Until the end of the nineteenth century, the majority of Jews in Chile were refugees from the Spanish Inquisition. However, more Jews arrived in the second half of the 19th century which were mainly migrants from France and Germany. At present, it is estimated that around 0.03 percent of the population is Jewish. 

Other religions within Chile are mainly present in the border area with Argentina and Bolivia and are represented by the native population. Other religions are Wiccans that are represented by the Wiccan school. 

The current share of nonreligious people is estimated to be around 5.7 percent and has been increasing in the last two decades. In 2011, the atheist society of the Chile was founded which is still present today.
