In total, Malta spends 0.59 percent of its GDP, or US$84 million on its military. This makes Malta the 140th highest military spender in the world representing 0.004 percent of total global military expenditure. 

The military of Malta, called the Armed Forces of Malta consists mainly of air and naval forces. Its main task is to guarantee the territorial integrity of Malta as well as border patrols.

Malta 

Known for being home to one of the oldest temples as well as the warmest climate in Europe, Malta has had a rich history. It was first inhabited by the Phoenicians, followed by the Greeks, the Romans and later on the Byzantine Empire. At the end of the ninth century until the end of the 11th century, it was conquered by the Aghlabids, an Arab state located in north Africa. After being expelled by the Sicilians, which established the Knights of Malta which ruled Malta until it was seized by Napoleon at the end of the 18th century. Shortly after being conquered by the French, the British conquered Malta and made it a colony of the British Crown. After the second world war, self-governance was granted to Malta which led to independence in 1971. Since its independence, Malta has joined the European union and, aside from economic tensions, entered a period of stability. .

 Located in the southern part of the Mediterranean Sea, the island of Malta is considered to be relatively flat with its highest point being just over 250 meters or 0.15 miles. Aside from its urban area, its terrain is almost fully made up of a low-lying vegetation or agricultural land. 

Malta is the 185th largest state in the world with a total surface area of 318 square kilometers or 123 square miles. This makes Malta and slightly larger than the Maldives and slightly smaller than Grenada. 

Malta does not have permanent bodies of water on its surface.

Because Malta does not have surface water, it is fully reliance on ground water. Most of its tap water is considered safe to drink. 

The climate of Malta is considered to be a Mediterranean climate with warm and dry summers and mild and wet winters. The average temperature is 19.5 degrees Celsius or 67 degrees Fahrenheit which makes Malta the 111th warmest state in the world. 

During the summer period, from July to August, the average temperature is 22.2 degrees Celsius or 72 degrees Fahrenheit. 

During winter, from December to February, the average temperature is 14.9 degrees Celsius or 58.8 degrees Fahrenheit. 

The majority of its rainfall occurs during the winter when it receives 50 percent of precipitation. During the summer, Malta receives little to no rainfall. On average, Malta receives 55.9 centimetres or 22 inches of rainfall per year. This makes Malta the 151st state with the highest amount of rainfall. 

The capital of Malta, Valetta, is home to approximately 6000 people. The capital that is closest located to Valetta is Tripoli Libya with a distance of 338 kilometers or 210 miles. The capital that is furthest removed from Valetta is Wellington New Zealand with a distance of 18,218 kilometers or 11,320 miles. 

The economy of Malta is among the smallest in Europe. After joining the European economic union in 2008, Malta has become a part of the European internal markets. Its economy is characterized as an industrialized economy with a strong tourism sector. Despite only producing a fraction of its food needs, Malta also has a strong agricultural sector where it exports several wines and olive oils. However, most of its exports products are petroleum and medical products which are mainly exported to France and Germany which combined represent 20 percent of all exports. Most of its imports comes from Italy and the United Kingdom which combined represent around 35 percent of all imports. 

Malta is a member of 10 international economic organizations which makes it the 160th most connected state in the world. It is a member of the following organizations:

Its economy is the 128th highest in the world with US$14.2 billion. This represents 0.017 percent of total global GDP. It's GDP per service area is the fourth highest in the world and stands at US$44.6 million per square kilometer or US$115.5 million per square mile. 

Its GDP per capita is US$30,742 which is the 31st highest in the world. 

Its purchasing power is US$45,573 which makes it the 29th highest in the world. 

The absolute earnings (GDP per capita) reflect the average yearly income. The figure below shows how much, on average, an inhabitant of another state earns for every $1 earned by a citizen of this state.

With a total population of 460,769 people, Malta is the 168th most populous state in the world. The majority of its population is made up of ethnic Maltese which is a mixture of Mediterranean people.

It has the sixth highest population density in the world with 3747 people per square mile or 1447 people per square kilometer. 

Around 60,000 people, or 11.1 percent of the population have migrated from Malta. The majority of the population has migrated to Australia followed by larger economies of the European union. The largest exodus to Australia was after the second world war when Australia received around 50,000 people in the years after the second world war. 

Immigration to Malta is represented by 14.4 percent of the population, or 75,000 people. Despite having limited resources as well as limited land, Malta has been an attractive destination for pensioners within the European union as well as migrants from sub-Saharan Africa which arrived at Malta in order to work or to transit to continental Europe. 

Education is free and compulsory between the ages of six and 16. Despite having a sufficient educational system, the literacy rate Malta is the 104th highest in the world with a literacy rate of 94 percent. 

The health care system of Malta provides universal coverage to all Maltese citizens. His health care system is divided up into a public health care system which is funded by the government and specialized health care system. As a public health care system is insufficient in managing the health of its citizens, the government of Malta invites private healthcare providers to increase healthcare services. With an average life expectancy of 83.1 years, Malta has the ninth highest life expectancy in the world. Women reach an average of 84.7 years while men reach 81.4 years. The leading causes of death are related to lifestyle choices such as smoking, obesity and alcohol consumption. 

Despite having Roman Catholicism as the state religion, the government of Malta provides freedom of religion towards all religions. Nonadherence to Catholicism have the freedom to not participate in Catholic events that are supported by the government of Malta. 

Christianity is the largest religion in Malta and is followed by 81 percent. This makes Malta 47th most Christian state in the world. It is thought to believe that one of the apostles of Jesus Christ was shipwrecked on Malta when he tried to spread the word of Jesus Christ.

Islam has had a historical influence on Malta for over 200 years. However, after the expulsion of the Arabs of Malta, Islam was also expelled from the island. Only after Malta's independence did Malta become a socialist state which sought closer ties with Libya. Currently, Malta is the 126th most Islamic state in the world with one percent of its population adhering to Islam. 

There are no official Buddhist organizations in Malta. 

Hinduism is represented by 0.13 percent of the population. Despite providing freedom of religion, the state of Malta does not recognize Hinduism as an official religion and are considered to be cultists.  

Judaism is represented by 0.04 percent of the population, or less than 200 people. The Jewish community used to be higher before the second world war, but after the second world war many Jews migrated to Israel. 

0.07 percent of the population adheres to other religions. These are mainly people that adhere to paganism. 

Irreligion is represented by 1.67 percent of the population. However, this percentage is thought to be higher as around half of the Christian population does not attend religious services on a regular basis.
