Because of its size, Monaco has a limited space for its security. There are special forces within Monaco that provide some defence of Monaco, but it is mostly reliance on the protection by France. Therefore, Monaco has no military budget.

Monaco 

Known for hosting world famous casinos, formula one races as well as having the wealthiest yachts, the city state of Monaco has remained of one of the last city states of Europe. Its name is probably derived from the Italian words for monk where the image of two monks appears on the coat of arms of the royalty of Monaco which established Monaco at the end of the 13th century. Nearly 500 years later, the territory of Monaco was annexed by France until they gained their independence in 1861. Since then, Monaco has developed itself into one of the wealthiest states in the world with attractive taxes for wealthy people. .

 Located to the southeast of France, Monaco only borders France and the Mediterranean Sea. The territory consists of a narrow strip that goes along the French Alps. Its terrain is fully urbanized with the exception of some public gardens. 

Monaco is the second smallest state in the world with a total surface area of two square kilometers or one square mile. This ranks Monaco is the 193rd largest state in the world being slightly larger than the Holy See or Vatican City and slightly smaller than Nauru. 

Monaco is no permanent bodies of water residing within its border.

Its water is considered safe to drink and comes from water treatment plants that extract water from underground wells. 

Because of its location on the Mediterranean Sea, which has a large influence on the climate of Monaco, Monaco enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. Another large influence are the Alpine mountains are located to its northeast which can bring cool breezes to Monaco with the wind is directed to the Southwest. The average temperature is 14.7 degrees Celsius or 58.4 degrees Fahrenheit which makes Monaco the 131st warmest state in the world. 

During summer, the average temperature is 16.9 degrees Celsius or 62.4 degrees Fahrenheit. 

During winter, the average temperature is 9.9 degrees Celsius or 49.8 degrees Fahrenheit 

Rainfall is fairly evenly spread out throughout the year in Monaco, which receives 80.5 centimetres or 31.7 inches per year. This makes Monaco the 119th state with the highest amount of rainfall. 

Monaco is a home to 38,350 people. The capital that is closest located to Monaco is Bern Switzerland with a distance of 354 kilometers or 220 miles. The capital that is furthest removed from Monaco is Wellington New Zealand with a distance of 18,980 kilometers or 11,793 miles. 

The economy of Monaco is mainly based on tourism as well as its banking sector. Other contributors to the economy are the sale of alcohol and tobacco due to low excise duties. 

Monaco is a member of three international economic organizations making it the second least connected state in the world. One of the reasons for this is that Monaco does not have to abide by international treaties which enables Monaco to maintain its fiscal attractiveness. It is a member of the following organizations:

Its GDP is US$7.4 billion which makes it the 153rd highest in the world representing 0.009 percent of total global GDP. 

Its GDP per square kilometer is US$3.6 billion or US$9.4 billion per square mile. This makes Monaco the state with the highest GDP per surface area. 

Its GDP per capita is also the highest in the world with US$119,566 per capita.

With a total population of 38,952 people, Monaco is the 189th most populous state in the world. Because the citizens of Monaco do not pay income taxes, Monaco has become an interesting destination for wealthy citizens. Currently, one in four inhabitants of Monaco is French, which is also its official language, but there are also large representations from Italy and Switzerland. 

Monaco has the highest population density in the world with 19,130 people per square kilometer or 49,542 people per square mile. 

Approximately 30,000 people, or 78.3 percent of its population have migrated to other states. This makes Monaco the 179th state with the highest amount of emigrants representing 0.012 percent of total global emigration. The largest destination for migrants from Monaco has been France which represents 90 percent of all migrants. 

Immigration to Monaco is represented by nearly 15,000 people, or 36.5 percent of the population. This makes Monaco the 136th state with the highest amount of immigrants representing 0.006 percent of total global immigration. Monaco has a strict immigration policy which only allows permanent residents through marriage or by investing approximately US$500,000 in Monaco itself. 

Education is free and compulsory between the ages of six and 16. It is estimated that Monaco has the 62nd highest literacy rate in the world with 97.6 percent. 

The health care system in Monaco is considered to be of very high standard and is mainly funded by the government of Monaco. With an average life expectancy of 82.3 years, with women reaching 85 and men reaching 78 years, Monaco has the 11th highest life expectancy in the world. 

Monaco is a Christian majority state, with Roman Catholicism as its state religion, which provides freedom of religion towards all religions. There have been no incident reported regarding religious infringements towards minority religions. 

Christianity is followed by 71.8 percent of the population which makes Monaco the 83rd most Christian state in the world. The largest denomination, with more than 90 percent, is the Catholic church.

Islam is followed by less than 500 people and are mainly adherents of the Sunni denomination. With a representation of 0.5 percent of the population, Monaco is the 133rd most Islamic state in the world. Most of the Muslims in Monaco are wealthy Arabs that are considered to be residents instead of citizens. 

There are no official Buddhist organizations in Monaco. 

There are no official Hindu organizations in Monaco. 

Judaism is represented by 1.13 percent of the population. Monaco houses a Jewish center which is used for food and prayer. 

Other religions are represented by 0.25 percent of the population. These are mainly people that adhere to the Baha'i faith. 

Irreligion is represented by 7.84 percent of the population.
